What Types of File Cabinet Locks Are There?

File cabinets are mainly used to store important materials and documents, so the safety of file cabinets is particularly important. At this stage, locks are mainly used to manage file cabinets to prevent file loss and avoid commercial and other major crises.

Today, I will mainly introduce the knowledge of 4 file cabinet locks to you.

1. Mechanical Padlock

Mechanical padlocks are generally made of metal and consist of a ring-shaped lock beam, a square lock body and a spring lock cylinder. Iron padlock is the most widely used kind of lock. Its advantages are that it is cheap and strong, but its disadvantages are that it is easy to rust, the key is reproducible, and the safety is uncontrollable. Due to the large gap in the padlock lock hole, it is easy to be blocked and cannot be unlocked. Mechanical padlocks are not the best option for important file storage cabinets.

2. Mechanical Cylinder Locks

The cylinder lock is a small and cheap lock that can change the key code. It is mainly used in indoor file cabinets, fire cabinets, bedside tables, etc. Due to its simple structure, convenient operation and low price, mechanical cylinder locks are widely used in storage cabinets with low security.

3. File Cabinet Cam Locks

The cam lock is one of the most commonly used and simplest locks. The lock body consists of a metal plate called a cam, so it is also called a “cam lock”. The lock tongue is attached to the core of the locking mechanism and rotates when the key is inserted and turned. The tongue rotates 90 to 180 degrees, locking and unlocking. Rotary cam locks and cylinder locks have similar working principles. The keys of these two locks also have security risks. Once the keys are lost, the locks must be replaced.

4. Vanma Electronic Smart Lock

Vanma electronic smart locks have two types: cylinder locks and padlocks. They are combined with electronic keys and lock management systems to form a secure file cabinet protection system. The electronic lock has IP67 protection level, which is as strong as ordinary machinery. The main advantages are as follows:
  • Installation does not require wiring, and the key is powered when unlocking;
  • The intelligent electronic lock management system authorizes unlocking, and the unlocking record is exported with one click;
  • One key can open multiple locks, and the keys can be easily managed;
  • Blacklist function, lost keys lose any unlocking authority.

On the premise that electronic locks and mechanical locks are equally strong, electronic locks are more secure. Therefore, when configuring file cabinet locks, you must combine the importance of documents to choose whether to use mechanical locks or electronic locks.
